Frequently Asked Questions
What is EXIF metadata?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data is information stored inside a photo file by your camera or phone — including camera model, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, date/time, and sometimes GPS coordinates.
Why would I want to strip EXIF data?
Sharing photos online with GPS coordinates can reveal your precise location. Stripping EXIF data before uploading protects your privacy and removes personal information embedded in the file.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens entirely in your browser. Your images never leave your device.
What image formats contain EXIF data?
EXIF data is most commonly found in JPEG/JPG files from cameras and phones. PNG, WebP, and GIF files rarely contain EXIF metadata.
How does EXIF stripping work?
The tool draws your image onto a browser canvas and re-exports it. Canvas exports do not carry EXIF data, so the resulting file is completely clean.
